Nel Blu dipinto di Blu – Volare

“Nel blu dipinto di blu”, known all over the world as “Volare” has been for years the most famous Italian song in the world.

Written by Domenico Modugno in 1958, in collaboration with Franco Migliacci, it was presented, at the Sanremo festival of that year and immediately became a global success.

This song marked a breaking point in the history of Italian song.

In fact, he separated the old traditional melodic style with a new freer, more screamed and swing-influenced style.

In the Sanremo performance, during the festival, Modugno let himself go to a free interpretation that became a winning strength.

Until then, the singers at the festival, seemed almost plastered and Modugno, on the other hand, proved, to the ferocious Italian critics, that free interpretation is an important component, as much as words and music.

The song was performed in tandem with Johnny Dorelli but Modugno’s interpretation was the one that left a deep groove of joy, history and culture in the panorama of Italian music.

We must never stop flying.
