Italian Club September Program. Del Buon Vino!


On September 20th we will meet at our normal location, Favazza’s Banquet Center. In addition to our normal wines from Favazza’s, the dinner will be accompanied by a tasting of wines hand selected by our presenter that evening, Luciano Racca. Luciano is a co-owner of Raineri vineyard in Piemonte, Italy. He will speak to us about each of the wines as we move through the dinner courses.

This is an opportunity to enjoy fine Italian wines, a Nebbiolo and a Dolcetto selected by the winemaker himself, offered for tasting with the evening’s dinner. We will also learn about the grape varietals and the wines they produce while tasting them.

Growing up in the Langhe district in Cherasco, a small town in Piemonte, Italy, Luciano left home to follow his passion as a waiter and sommelier throughout Europe. As the Director of Trussardi Alla Scala Ristorante in Milano, he received two Michelin Stars in two years.
Moving back home in late 2009, he joined Domenico Clerico, top Barolo producer, as his right-hand man. Over the next four years Luciano traveled around the world as Brand Ambassador, but when at home, he concentrated on the land, winemaking, and daily care of the cellar. As his passion grew, he started his own winery, Raineri, together with two friends: Gianmatteo Jimmy Raineri and Fabrizio Giraudo.
During one of his travels to the US, he met his now wife Kelly, and decided to move in early 2014. He has settled in St. Louis – Missouri, and now sharing his experiences and expertise at Ionia-Atlantic Imports as Italian Wine Consultant.
Today his focus with Raineri is to market his wine around the world and to enjoy the countryside and vineyards when in Italy.



A short history with a promising future.
In 2005, three guys born and raised among the vineyards of the Langhe District in Piedmont, Gianmatteo Jimmy Raineri, Fabrizio Giraudo, and Luciano Racca started Raineri as a small production of Dolcetto from the famous Dogliani area. Their passion and respect for wine and the winemaking traditions pushed them to have a full line by 2006, including Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolo all from vineyards in Monforte d’Alba. With the help of their families, and generous advice from wise producers, they were able to fulfill their dream of making classic wines of Piedmont.
Located in Panerole of Novello, the cellar is made up of three essential areas: vinification (all stainless steel vats), aging (French oak Botti Grandi and barrels), and bottle storage with controlled temperature. They share the philosophy of the Master Vintners of the Langhe District: manual work for absolute care of each grapevine, wine let to age in barrels made with only the best oak, and daily barrel sampling to learn and be a part of the evolution.​
